Luke 17;22… And He said to his disciples, “The days are coming when you desire one of the days of the Son of Man, and you will not see it. And they will say to you, ‘Look here’ or ‘look there’. Do not go out and follow them.”
The ‘days of the Son of Man’ seems to refer to the days when Jesus walked on earth. When he was here, miracles were commonplace… stuff happened. Can you imagine the stories between a couple of people who never saw Him? “Did you hear about the time He fed thousands of people with one kid’s sack lunch?” “Yeah, I heard that, but what about the time He healed a Leper?” The conversations could have been sensational. Jesus warns us about a similar thing happening in the future. We are living in the future. Don’t be fooled by stories that come from a certain church saying, “You should see what Jesus is doing at our church.”
When choosing a church, pay attention to the relationship to the Bible more than the claims to miracles. Regarding relationship with God’s word, one must know the word of God in order to properly check it out. I have almost always heard churches say, “We only preach the Bible.” Adding a supportive scripture verse to a sermon is what we call ‘proof texting’. That is not the same as teaching the Bible. We must read and study the word of God in order to ‘get it.’ And, in doing that, we are totally dependent on the Holy Spirit.
Proper interpretation requires perspiration from me and inspiration from the Holy Spirit. Don’t just sit on the couch and expect inspiration. Study diligently and ask God for inspiration while you study. Christians communicate with each other, “I want to be used by God.” That is a healthy confession, but who do you think He will use? Someone who is sitting and waiting or someone who is busy? In my time as a human, I have noticed that busy people get busier. Rarely have I seen a ‘sleeper’ get chosen to accomplish something great. Don’t be an ambulance chaser in your search for Jesus. He is not like that. One of the beautiful things that happened at His Resurrection is The Holy Spirit was given to all of us. When He returns it will not be over here or over there; it will be a worldwide phenomenon.
