Battling Deception

May 22, 2018

2 Thessalonians 2:8-9… The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan, with all power and false signs and wonders, and with all wicked deception for those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.

The Lawless on, the anti-Christ, is coming before Jesus comes back and he will deceive people with lies and deception. In the above scripture we learn that he will come with signs and wonders. Also, all the power of Satan will be operative in him. God also reveals Himself with signs and wonders. The anti-Christ will draw after himself people who are not firmly standing on the Truth. This is not speaking of those who just don’t get it. It speaks of those who refuse to love the truth. The implication of that is they know the truth and refuse it. This sentence adds the power of love. They not only refuse to believe it, they refuse to love it. So that begs a question, “Do you love the Truth?” I think in this day and age, we ought to be asking ourselves that. When the anti-Christ comes, he will deceive many. Our line of defense against deception is love for the Truth.

I have been told that when a bank teller is trained to spot counterfeit money, he, or she, spends a great deal of time handling the real thing; that is the best way to spot counterfeit. And that is our instruction as well. It is not necessary or even helpful to know the various deceptions that have/will come against us in the last days. One thing that I have found…  when a person is deceived, that person doesn’t know it.  That is the nature of deception. I have talked with drug addicts who have said to me, “I just need one more fix… then I will quit.” If you respond to that request, you encourage their addiction; you prolong their deception. We cannot handle deception without a real love for the Truth. When you love the Truth, you just can’t get enough of it. That is the nature of Truth; it leads. Truth is not looking for an argument; it is leading us away from evil.  It is leading us to God; that is the reason we love it.  We don’t argue our way into heaven; we follow the leading of the Truth. The Holy Spirit is guiding us into all truth. We are following His lead. What does He say about a decision you are making? How is your life guided by truth?
